Coats for Kids

SEARCY — The 2010 Coats for Kids Campaign, sponsored by the Searcy Rotary Club, is starting. Barrels labeled with the Coats for Kids logo will be placed in schools, churches, banks and other locations throughout White County where donated coats may be placed. Organizations with coats to be donated, whether they have a barrel at their facility or not, may call Judy Steinsiek at (501) 268-8745 or Pete Steinsiek at (501) 305-3701 to have coats picked up. Individuals may also call for pickup. Organizations may call to request a collection barrel, which will be delivered, or to receive coats for distribution. Three cleaning establishments — Comet Cleaners, Halls Cleaners and Laundry, and Gladdens Cleaners — will clean the coats free of charge. The coats will be distributed to children through churches, schools and other organizations. For more information, call Judy or Pete Steinsiek.

Faculty Recital

BEEBE — Arkansas State University-Beebe’s department of music will present a faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. in the Science Building Lecture Hall on the Beebe campus. The recital will be presented by instructors Brent Bristow on saxophone and Lauren Schack Clark on piano. The program will include selections by Michael Torke, Jacob Ter Veldhuis, William Grant Still, David Diamond and John Cheetham. The recital is free and open to the public. Golf Classic

BATESVILLE — The fourth annual fall golf classic will begin with tee time at 10 a.m. at the Course at Eagle Mountain. This is a four-person scramble presented by Citizens Bank. Lunch will be provided. Registration is $300 per team or $75 for individuals. The fee includes the greens fee, a golf cart, lunch and a chance for door prizes. There will be a Business After Hours with Citizens Bank before the classic from 5-6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Course at Eagle Mountain.

Music Festival

POCAHONTAS — The Rock ’n’ Roll Highway 67 Music Festival will be Friday and Saturday in Pocahontas. Narvel Felts and Double Eagle, Bill Rice, J.R. Rogers and Mickey Gilley will headline the concerts. There will also be a car cruise and show and a hula hoop contest Saturday. On Friday, there will be a sock hop, a karaoke contest and a You Ain’t Nothin’ but a Hound Dog contest. Tickets are $15 for general admission for ages 11-18. Children 10 and younger will get in free. Bring lawn chairs. Latin Guitarist Concerts

FAIRFIELD BAY — The North Central Arkansas Foundation for Arts and Education will kick off the 2010-2011 concert season with two concerts by world-renowned Latin guitarist David Burgess. There will be a Dinner Concert Buffet at Indian Hills Country Club in Fairfield Bay at 6 p.m. Saturday with a cash bar from 5-6. Burgess will perform immediately after the dinner. Tickets for the buffet are $20 and may be purchased from the Fairfield Bay Chamber of Commerce and Foundation President Lea Berry. Call (501) 253-7909. The second event will be a free concert presented by Burgess at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, in the Clinton School Auditorium, at the corner of Joe Bowling Road, Fraser and Hall streets in Clinton. On Friday, Burgess will present concerts to three area schools. All concerts for the coming season are free to the public. Private donations will be accepted and are tax deductible.

Community Yard Sale

MELBOURNE — The city of Melbourne will hold its 20th annual Fall Communitywide Yard Sale from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. All sales will be held, rain or shine. A list of sales will be available for pickup at City Hall on Thursday and Friday. To be added to the list, call City Hall with your name and location by 2 p.m. Wednesday. Sales may be set up at Charles C. Miller Park. No sales will be allowed in front of Fred’s, Dollar General, Custom Cuts, The Bread of Life Bible Bookstore or the Home Town Market. Bunko Bash

SEARCY — The third annual Bunko Bash will be at 2 p.m. at Park Avenue Baptist Church, in the gym, at 211 E. Park Ave. Tickets are $25. Proceeds will go to the White County Single Parent Scholarship Fund Inc. Purchase tickets through the scholarship fund board or at the door. 10th Anniversary

JACKSONVILLE — The members of the Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Jacksonville invite everyone to the church’s 10th anniversary celebration at 6:30 p.m. There will be a special concert featuring the gospel group Chosen.

SAME Café

SEARCY — The SAME Café will be open from 4-6 p.m. at the West Side Church of Christ, 709 W. Arch St. in Searcy. The SAME Café is open the first and third Saturdays of each month to anyone in the community who would like a free warm meal.

Cemetery Association Meeting

EL PASO — The annual meeting of the Blasingame Cemetery Association will be at noon at the cemetery. The meeting will be in the pavilion with a potluck lunch served at noon and the meeting immediately following. The association will discuss financial and other matters pertaining to the cemetery and elect officers and board members for the coming year. Bring lawn chairs, as seating is unavailable. Outdoor Movie

BATESVILLE — The Batesville Area Arts Council will present WALL-E at 7:30 p.m. in Couch’s Garden behind Brown Chapel at Lyon College. The outdoor movie is free.

Historical Society Meeting

WISEMAN — The fall quarterly meeting of the Izard County Historical and Genealogical Society will be at 2 p.m. at the Wiseman Red School House. The meeting is free to society members, guests and the public. Betty Burns Brunson will present a program about the Wiseman School and the area. Brunson and Dorothy Sanders will serve as hostesses for the meeting. Refreshments will be served, and a tour of the building and grounds will conclude the meeting. The school building is handicap-accessible, but no bathroom facilities are available. Several school pews are available for limited seating. Bring lawn chairs for comfort. Wiseman is on Arkansas 354, east of Oxford and west of Horseshoe Bend. Turn south between the Wiseman Baptist Church and the Wiseman post office on County Road 55. Immediately turn westward at the sign for the Wiseman Cemetery. Go less than one-fourth of a mile. The schoolhouse is on the right side of Cemetery Road. Ordering Deadline

BATESVILLE — Monday is the deadline to order a yard sign from the Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce for the Paint the Town campaign supporting area schools. Signs are $20 and are available in red, orange, blue and navy. Window painting is also available for businesses for $30, which includes all supplies.
