Ark. highway officials to hold meetings on roads

The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department will be conducting public meetings later this month to discuss the deteriorating condition on some highways in the area and options to address the situation.

The agency says the meetings are set for April 18 in Morrilton, April 19 in Quitman and April 21 in Searcy.

Officials in January announced plans to reduce the legal weight limit allowed on sections of 13 highways in Cleburne, Conway, Faulkner, Independence, Van Buren, and White counties. A total of 133 miles were to be affected by the new restrictions.

The new limits were scheduled to go into effect Feb. 14, but the agency agreed to delay the implementation until meetings could be held to discuss the highway damage and new weight restrictions.
