— The death of a Pine Bluff man discovered Thursday night has been confirmed as a homicide, according to officials.

Andrea Cherry, Public Information Officer for the Pine Bluff Police Department, confirmed the news Friday morning in the death of 29-year old Jason Taggart, whose body was found by witnesses in a field, partially covered with leaves.

Officers were dispatched to investigate the situation near the 4000 block of Bay Street at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Cherry said the cause of death appeared to be a gunshot wound, but the official cause of death hadn't been confirmed at the time.

Taggart's body was sent to the state crime lab for further tests. Results weren't immediately available.

Police currently have no leads or arrests in the case and the investigation is ongoing.
