Fairgrounds hosts dog show this weekend

Dog lovers can watch their favorite breeds compete for the “best in show” title at the Arkansas Kennel Club Dog Show, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday-Sunday at the Arkansas State Fairgrounds in Little Rock. Dogs and their people from across the country are expected to take part in the competition. Admission is $2, $1 for children ages 12-18. Pups who aren’t quite old enough for the big event can take part in a puppy match at 6 p.m. Friday. Admission is free but puppy registration, which ends at 5 p.m., is $7.

Little Rock singer-songwriter Charity Vance, 18, a 2010 contestant on Fox’s American Idol, will perform an “electric indie pop mix” of her original songs and pop covers with the band Half Priced Hearts at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Lucy Lockett Cabe Festival Theatre at Wildwood Park for the Arts in far west Little Rock. The concert is the second in Wildwood’s Emerging Artists Series. Doors open at 6:30. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door; $50 VIP tickets include an autographed CD, a poster and backstage passes to a post-concert party.
