— IRCLE UNBROKEN:

Marshall Grant, original and longtime member of Johnny Cash’s Tennessee Two (then Three) band recently noted here, has died at 83.

Grant resided in Hernando, Miss., but was in Jonesboro recently for the Johnny Cash Music Festival at Arkansas State University, listening to rehearsals the day before and planning to perform in the show. But he collapsed at his hotel Wednesday night from an aneurysm and was taken to St. Bernards Medical Center, where he had surgery to remove a blood clot. He died about 3 a.m. last Sunday.

STAY TUNED: Readers have asked when the Johnny Cash Music Festival, filmed for a national PBS special, will air. A date hasn’t been set yet.

PULLING ANCHORS: Heather Crawford, weekday 5 p.m. news anchor for KATV, Channel 7, returns from maternity leave and moves to the weekend anchor position on Saturday, Aug. 20.

Current weekend news anchor Pamela Smith will move to Good Morning Arkansas and Beth Hunt, previously in that position but filling in for Crawford, will remain in the 5 p.m. weekday news anchor spot.

STARRY-EYED: From 1 to 7 p.m. today, a call for those 12 to 65-plus is set for extras and stand-ins for Arkansan Jeff Nichols’ Mud to be filmed locally.

The open call will be at Parkview Arts Science Magnet High School’s auditorium, 2501 John Barrow Road in Little Rock.

Those under 18 need to have a parent or guardian with them.

Nichols is also seeking a rural, outdoorsy boy experienced in swimming and boating age 13-17 for a co-starring role.

Those who can’t make the call may apply at ARFilmCasting.com or by mailing a nonreturnable photo, contact information, and their height and weight to Mud Casting, 802 W. Eighth St., Little Rock, Ark. 72201.

REST OF THE STORY:

The Wall Street Journal’s recent profile on Little Rock philanthropist and businessman Jennings Osborne upon his passing touched on his colorful life, noting, “He sponsored fireworks displays and once bought the entire contents of a doughnut store and distributed the treats to startled patrons.”

Osborne earlier shared the rest of that story with Michael Feldman, host of National Public Radio’s comedy quiz show, Whad’Ya Know? during a visit to Little Rock. While in a Hot Springs doughnut shop, Osborne had grown annoyed with some ornery Texans who couldn’t decide which doughnuts to buy.

“So I bought them all,” Osborne told Feldman.
