Man's standoff in TV tower enters 5th day

— A standoff between police and a 25-year-old man who climbed a TV transmission tower is now in its fifth day.

Tulsa Police say the man has a history of mental health issues and has refused to come down from the Clear Channel communications tower since he climbed up 100 feet on Thursday.

Negotiators in the basket of a fire engine ladder negotiated with the man for about five hours early Monday, but he still refused to come down.

Tulsa Police Capt. Ryan Perkins says officers are gravely concerned for the man’s well-being because the last time he took water was early Friday morning.

Perkins says the man has managed to take short naps by leaning against, or lying across, the 300-foot tower’s steel beams.
