Tax Services

The Central Arkansas Development Council is offering free tax-return preparation in Hot Spring and Saline counties. CADC offers the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. IRS-certified VITA/TCE volunteer preparers will provide electronic filing, debit cards, U.S. Savings Bonds and asset development at no cost to low-income taxpayers. For Hot Spring County, free tax preparation is held at the Hot Spring County/Malvern Library. Appointments can be scheduled by calling (501) 332-5441. In Saline County, free tax preparation is held at the Bob Herzfeld Memorial Library, 1800 Smithers Drive in Benton, and at the Mabel Boswell Memorial Library, 201 Prickett Road in Bryant. Appointments for both locations can be scheduled by calling (501) 778-1133. People utilizing the sites should bring their family’s Social Security cards, a picture ID, W-2/1099s, a copy of last year’s return, bank-account information for direct deposit or splitting a refund to several accounts, and any other pertinent information. Valentine’s Concert

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — The Kiwanis Club of Greater Hot Springs Village will sponsor a Valentine’s concert by the Natural State Brass Band at 3 p.m. at the Woodlands Auditorium in Hot Springs Village. Tickets, at $8 each, are available from band and club members.

Registration Deadline

HOT SPRINGS — A Lunch and Learn workshop on safe medicine storage and disposal will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Friday at the Extension Homemakers Club Building at the Garland County Fairgrounds. Register by Monday by calling (501) 623-6841 or e-mailing lwashburn@uaex.edu. The cost is $4, which includes lunch.

Teen Un-Valentine’s Day

BENTON — Teens are invited to participate in a celebration of all things Un-Valentine’s from 4-5 p.m. Monday at the Bob Herzfeld Memorial Library in Benton. Games, activities and snacks will center around chocolate, and participants will have the opportunity to enjoy a coffeehouse portion of the program. Call (501) 778-4766 for more information.

Minority Health Forum

ARKADELPHIA — Henderson State University will host a Minority Health Forum from 6-7 p.m. at the Community Education Center, 640 S. Sixth St. in Arkadelphia. Dr. Creshelle Nash, who practices internal medicine in Little Rock, will be the speaker. Nash is medical director of the Arkansas Minority Health Commission and assistant professor in the division of general internal medicine at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. The forum is open to the public, and refreshments will be served.

Saline Crossing Meeting

BENTON — The Saline Crossing Regional Park and Recreation Area Inc. will have its February meeting at 5:30 p.m. in the Gene Moss Building at Tyndall Park. The public is invited.

Cabaret Dinner Show

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — Shirley Chauvin and the little big band S’Wonderful, as well as special guest artist Lydia deSambourg, will present a swinging musical experience with songs made famous by big-band vocalists of the ’40s through the ’70s at a cabaret dinner show to kick off the Hot Springs/Hot Springs Village Symphony Guild’s spring season. The show will be at the Hot Springs Village Coronado Center. Cocktails will begin at 5:30 p.m., with dinner at 6 and entertainment at 7. Basketball Tournament

ARKADELPHIA — The Special Olympic Basketball Tournament and Individual Skills Competition will be held at Ouachita Baptist University. Opening ceremonies will begin at 10 a.m. in Vining Arena at the Sturgis Physical Education Center, followed immediately by the games and activities. Awards ceremonies will take place at noon. Genealogy Help

BRYANT — Steve Perdue, head of local history and genealogy for the Saline County Library, will be available to help individuals with local history and genealogy questions from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2-5:30 p.m. at the Mabel Boswell Memorial Library in Bryant. Library Photography Club

BENTON — The Library Photography Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Bob Herzfeld Memorial Library in Benton. The group is for adults 18 and older who want to learn more about the art of photography and editing photos. Beginners are welcome, and attendees are encouraged to bring their cameras. Heart Program

BENTON — Saline Memorial Hospital will host Understanding and Treating Peripheral Vascular Disease from noon to 1 p.m. in Classroom 1 in the SMH Health Education Building. The seminar is one of several events being hosted in February to promote National Heart Month. The cost for lunch is $6. The seminar is free. To RSVP, call (501) 776-6020.

Benefit Dance

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — The DeSoto Square Dancers will host a dance from 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Coronado Community Center. The event will also feature a silent auction, with proceeds going to The Caring Place in Hot Springs, an adult daycare center for adults with Alzheimer’s disease. Square-dancing experience is not required to participate. There is no charge for those who do not dance. Guest square-dancers will pay $5 per person.
