Conway suspect who went missing arrested in Ohio

— A Conway man who went missing days before he was to go to trial in a murder case has been arrested in Ohio, authorities said Saturday.

It wasn't immediately clear how Karon Mohammed, 28, ended up in Ohio, but authorities there say he was arrested without incident after a tip led them to an apartment complex in a suburb of Youngstown.

Liberty Police Department Sgt. Michael Janovick said Mohammed shut off the lights and jumped out a bedroom window after police arrived at an apartment in Liberty around 3 a.m. Saturday. Local police and U.S. Marshals had set up a perimeter around the structure and Mohammed was arrested outside without further incident.

He was then taken to the Trumbull County Jail in Warren, Ohio. Janovick said Mohammed was alone in the apartment and unarmed. No local charges were filed and it wasn't immediately known whether Mohammed would waive extradition back to Arkansas.

A man set to appear in court on murder charges called 911 and said he heard noises. And then the line went dead.

Mohammed was to go to trial Thursday in Garland County in the 2009 shooting of Sean Robinson.

But Mohammed early Monday morning placed a 911 call from his Conway apartment, saying he heard noises. Authorities arrived minutes later, finding blood in the residence, a hole in the wall and Mohammed gone.

The trial was delayed and a warrant was issued for Mohammed's arrest while police investigated whether he ran on his own to evade the charges or if he was kidnapped.
