Symphony Concert

RUSSELLVILLE — The Russellville Symphony Guild will present a performance by the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 2, in Witherspoon Auditorium at Arkansas Tech University. The concert will feature a mix of classical music and pop favorites. Reserved-seating tickets are $25 per person and include a 6 p.m. pre-concert reception at Lake Point Conference Center. General admission tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students in kindergarten through the 12th grade, and free for current Arkansas Tech and UACCM students with proof of college ID. Fair Items Needed

SALEM — The Arkansas State Fair Museum, which features memories of the state fair from the past, needs photos, awards, show programs, livestock show equipment, creative arts tools, concert posters, and concert and rodeo ticket stubs for display. Guest Speaker

CONWAY — Theodore J. Wardlaw, president of Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Austin, Texas, will be the guest speaker at the 10 a.m. worship service at First Presbyterian Church, 2400 Prince St. in Conway. He will also facilitate a discussion on theological education during the 9 a.m. Sunday School hour. The public is cordially invited. Wardlaw received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C., a divinity degree from Union Theological Seminary in Richard, Va., and a Master of Sacred Theology degree with an emphasis in church history from Yale University Divinity School in New Haven, Conn.

Free Concert

CONWAY — The Airmen of Note, one of the nation’s best big bands, will perform at 7:30 p.m. at the Reynolds Performance Hall at the University of Central Arkansas. In 2010, the Airmen of Note celebrated their 60th anniversary as the premier jazz ensemble of the U.S. Air Force. The concert is free and open to the public. Tickets are available at Reynolds Performance Hall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Ticket Office will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Community Yard Sale

GREENBRIER — The 2011 Spring Community Yard Sale will be held from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 2, at the City Event Center in Greenbrier. Booths are $20 for a 10-by-10-foot space. There will be a pancake breakfast from 6-9 a.m. with all-you-can-eat pancakes for $5 per person, and hot dogs will be served from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a $3 donation. All proceeds from food sales will benefit a local charity. All booths are indoors in a climate-controlled environment, and plenty of parking is available. Scholarship Application

MAUMELLE — The Maumelle Newcomers Club will once again offer a $1,000 scholarship. All residents of Maumelle are eligible to apply, as well as any immediate family member of a Newcomer Club member. Applicants must have no less than a 2.5 cumulative grade-point average and cannot be the recipient of a full scholarship. The scholarship is available to those attending a four-year or two-year institution or an accredited technical college. Graduate and part-time students are also eligible. Applications, which must be postmarked by Monday, April 18, can be obtained at the Maumelle Public Library or by calling scholarship chairman Terry Jones at (501) 851-2966.
