Arkansas highway accidents fatal to 2

— Two people were killed and several were injured in two separate accidents on Arkansas roadways Tuesday and Wednesday, according to preliminary Arkansas State Police accident reports.

About 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, Brandon Espers, 16, of Cotton Plant was driving a 2004 Mercury sport utility vehicle south on Cemetery Road in Cotton Plant in Woodruff County when he lost control of the vehicle on a curve and ran off the road. The SUV flipped over twice and landed on its roof, the report said.

Alberta Palton, 16, of Cotton Plant, a passenger in the vehicle, died in the accident.

Along with Espers, passengers Jonas Palton, 17; Lauren Carroll, 16; Kashawndira Ewing, 16; Diamond Tucker, 14; and Jade Patrick, 10 months, all of Cotton Plant, were injured and taken to various hospitals for treatment, including Arkansas Children’s Hospital, Forrest City Medical Center and White County Medical Center, the report said. Their conditions were not available Thursday.

About 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, Jackie Lehman, 56, of Berryville was killed on U.S. 62 less than a mile north of Garfield in Benton County, the report said.

Lehman was driving a 2009 Nissan Murano south on the highway when her vehicle crossed the centerline, ran off the road and hit a tree, the report said.
