Summer Hours

HOT SPRINGS — National Park Community College has implemented a four-day week for Summer 2011. The hours of operation for the summer, beginning on Monday, will be from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and will continue through Thursday, Aug. 4. The college will be closed on Fridays to accommodate students, faculty and staff in an effort to save on gasoline use and to take advantage of cost savings to the school with a decrease in energy use and related expenses. The regular five-day week will resume on Monday, Aug. 8, with hours of operation from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for the business offices.

SUNDAY

Witness for the Prosecution

BENTON — The Royal Players will present Agatha Christie’s Witness for the Prosecution today, and Thursday through Sunday, May 22, at the Royal Theatre, 111 Market St. in downtown Benton. MONDAY

Courthouse for a Day

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — Saline County elected officials will be at the Woodlands Auditorium, 1101 DeSoto Blvd., from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to answer questions and meet constituents as part of Courthouse for a Day in Hot Springs Village. County officials scheduled to attend the event include County Judge Lanny Fite, County Clerk Freddy Burton, Circuit Clerk Dennis Milligan, Tax Collector Joy Ballard, Tax Assessor Jim Crawford, Sheriff Bruce Pennington, Coroner Will Bearden, Prosecuting Attorney Ken Casady, Treasurer Sandra McPherson, 1st Division Circuit Judge Bobby McCallister and 2nd Division Circuit Judge Gary Arnold. Third Division Circuit Judge Grisham Phillips and 4th Division Circuit Judge Robert Herzfeld will have court hearings that day and will not be able to attend. Most of the county officials will bring one of their deputies to assist in providing constituent services. Each elected official will have a table set up in the Woodlands. Signs will be posted with the names of each official.

TUESDAY

Saline Crossing Meeting

BENTON — Saline Crossing Regional Park and Recreation Area Inc. will meet at 5:30 p.m. in the Gene Moss Building at Tyndall Park in Benton. The public is welcome and encouraged to join the effort to save the Old River Bridge.

Customer-Service Training

BRYANT — There will be a free customer-service training workshop for all Chamber members from 8-9 a.m. at the Bryant Area Chamber of Commerce Office, 109 Roya Lane. For more information, e-mail bryant.chamber@bryant-ar.com.

Book Signing

BRYANT — Local author and artist Carol Fullerton-Samsel will present and sign copies of her book The Clones of Langston from 4-5:30 p.m. at the Mabel Boswell Memorial Library in Bryant. The event is open to the public. Call (501) 778-4766 for more information.

SATURDAY

Brooms for Beethoven

HOT SPRINGS — The third annual Brooms for Beethoven event, which welcomes volunteers to clean and prepare the Hot Springs Fieldhouse for the Hot Springs Music Festival’s 2011 season, will take place from 9 a.m. to noon. The field house, which is part of the Historic Hot Springs High School campus at 228 Orange St., serves as the festival’s flagship concert hall. The festival provides all supplies and refreshments for the volunteers, who should dress for cleaning and bring a pair of work gloves if possible. Brooms for Beethoven participants will each receive a pair of 2011 Hot Springs Music Festival Orchestra concert tickets in appreciation of their efforts. No reservations are necessary, but those with questions may call the festival office at (501) 623-4763.

Lupus 5K

HOT SPRINGS — The Arkansas Chapter Inc. of the Lupus Foundation of America will host the 16th annual Norma Lampert Memorial Lupus Springers 5K Race and Walk for Lupus Now at 8 a.m. at Mid-America Park in Hot Springs. Lupus patients and family members are encouraged to get someone to walk in their honor. Call (501) 525-9380 or 800-294-8878 for a pledge sheet. Participants can walk as far as or as little as they like. The entire walk is 3.1 miles and is noncompetitive. All participants will receive a commemorative T-shirt, a goody bag, refreshments and a chance at winning a prize . The 5K Race consists of competitive walkers, runners and wheelchair participants. Winners will receive awards.
