Unilever adding 125 jobs in $40 million expansion

— A Jonesboro manufacturer will invest in a $40 million expansion, creating an estimated 125 new jobs.

Unilever, which makes personal care products at the plant, was set to announce the expansion at a news conference Tuesday with Gov. Mike Beebe.

“Unilever’s decision to expand in Jonesboro less than one year after acquiring this plant shows the confidence that Jonesboro’s workforce inspires in companies,” Beebe said in a statement. “I met with Unilever’s leadership team during our 2009 trade mission to Europe, and I’m glad that they’ve decided to further invest in Arkansas for the future.”

According to a news release from the Arkansas Economic Development Commission, Beebe met with executives to talk about the company's manufacturing facility in Little Rock.

The Jonesboro facility, located in Craighead Technology Park, had previously been owned by Alberto Culver, which Unilever recently acquired. The plant makes products for brands such as TRESemmé, Nexxus, Motions and St. Ives.

Information on the new jobs will be posted at www.unileverusa.com/Careers.
