TODAY Family Science Night ARKADELPHIA - Henderson State University’s science departments will present the second annual HSU Family Science Night from 5-6:30. Biology, chemistry and physics clubs will provide demonstrations, skits and activities for children, including the physics circus and nitrogen ice cream. Faculty will also be available for tours of the labs. The free event and will be held in the Reynolds Science Center at the corner of 12th and Richardson streets and is open to the public.

TODAY AND FRIDAY Counselors Visit Schools BENTON/MALVERN - Admissions counselors from the Arkansas School for Mathematics Sciences and the Arts will visit area schools to speak with students about ASMSA and qualifications for attending. FRIDAY-MONDAY Haunted House BENTON - Southwest Display, the Benton Area Chamber of Commerce and the Boys & Girls Club of Saline County will open a haunted house from 6-11 p.m.

Friday through Monday at 1216 River St. The experience will includeoncoming trains, snakes, a slaughterhouse, a haunted swamp and a zombie graveyard. The cost is $10 per person.

SATURDAY Community Fall Fest ALEXANDER - Zion Lutheran Church will hold a communitywide Fall Fest from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the church, 300 Avilla E. The event will feature trunk-and-treating, games, face painting and prizes. Avilla Christian Academy will serve hot dogs, brats, chips and drinks. Scrap Out Cancer Registration Deadline BRYANT - Saturday is the registration deadline for Relay for Life of Saline County’s Scrap Out Cancer, an all-day scrapbooking event, to be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 5 at Bishop Park. The registration fee, which includes lunch, is $25 per person and will benefit the 2012 Relay for Life, the American Cancer Society’s largest annual fundraiser. String Ensemble Recital ARKADELPHIA - Ouachita Baptist University’s String Ensemble will perform its fall concert at 7 p.m. in McBeth Recital Hall.

The ensemble is directed by Jir Shin Boey, assistant professor of music. The program will include J.S. Bach’s “Suite No. 1 in C, Overture,” W.A. Mozart’s “Divertimento in D, K. 136,” Samuel Barber’s “Adagio for Strings” and Gustav Holst’s “St. Paul’s Suite.” The recital is free and open to the public. Artists Submission Deadline HOT SPRINGS - Tuesday is the deadline for submission for the annual Handmade for the Holidays at the Artchurch, a fine crafts and arts festival, to be held Nov. 12 and 13. The Artchurch Studios in Hot Springs National Park needs artists and artisans for the event.
