Returning starters: Alexus Elmore (5-8 center, a senior, averaged 16 points and 12 rebounds last year); Katelyn Derrick (5-3, senior, returning all-conference); Hope Moore (a 5-4 junior known as the team’s passer); Miranda Turner (a 5-0 senior); Rachel Knight (a 5-7 senior) and Marah Dorrough (a 5-6 junior and 3-point shooter)
Best inside players: Elmore and sophomore Tora Eggleton stay outside. “They are learning different moves every day,” said head coach Kevin Moore. “We will be better in the post this year than we were last year because we have more depth.”
Best outside players: Turner, Derrick, Moore, Dorrough and junior Lynna Metcalf lead the outside. “My outside presence is probably the difference maker on our team,” he said. Moore promises his team can shoot the ball. They shot 29 percent as a team last year, with four players shooting over 40 percent.
How will you match/exceed/fall short of your success from last year: We will match our success simply by going out and playing. We have got the sheer talent coming back to at least match what we did last year.”
Strengths of the team: “We shoot the ball extremely well and we’re fast,” Moore said. “We press a lot and like to get the tempo going.”
Weaknesses of the team: Moore said his team's weakness is chemistry. “If someone has a magic recipe to make teenage girls get along, I'm buying it,” he said.
Games to watch: Bigelow, St. Joseph and Magazine. “Those are the three I look forward to the most,” Moore.
College prospects: Alexus Elmore
In a nutshell: Before the start of the season, Moore said he grew restless to see how his team would perform. “It would help a lot if we could just play a game,” he said. Moore said he focuses on offense, and defense may be lacking. However, several Little Johns taller ladies proved themselves as good defenders last season, and Moore said he is looking forward to watching them this year.
