Riverview Lady Raiders

Conference: 2-3A

Coach: Ryan Smith, second year at Riverview. Record there is 9-15, while overall record is 20-34.

Assistant coach: Eric Wallace

2010-2011 record: The Lady Raiders went 9-15 overall and 4-6 in conference play.

Returning starters: Only one starter is back for Riverview — point guard Meg Meachum. Meachum is a sophomore and is listed at 5-10.

Best inside players: 5-9 sophomore Sam Kendrick, 5-11 freshman Aryeona Watson and 5-8 sophomore Dymond Smith.

Best outside players: Meachum, 5-7 sophomore Lauren Feagin, 5-6 sophomore Asia Smith, 5-6 sophomore Katey Pence and 5-5 sophomore Nancy Pacheco.

How will you match/exceed/fall short of your success from last year? With a deeper bench and experience at the point, coach Smith is looking for the addition of improved inside post play to better last year’s mark.

Strengths of the team: Coach Smith noted more depth, inside post play and having an experienced point guard as the three strengths for the Lady Raiders.

Weaknesses of the team: Like the returning starter (Meachum), the coach noted that all other players, with the exception of two, are sophomores or younger. Meachum is the only player with senior-high game experience. So, inexperience is the obvious weakness.

Games to watch: All of the 2-3A Conference games should be competitive and intriguing, according to coach Smith.

Toughest opponents: Rose Bud, Harding Academy and Bald Knob.

College prospect: Meg Meachum

In a nutshell: “We are a very inexperienced team with an experienced point guard and a little more depth than last year,” the coach said, noting that his roster includes only one senior and one junior, while also tallying one freshman and 10 sophomores. Still, Smith believes the team can succeed in 2011-2012.
