Hackett RB Yazel totals 462 yards, 7 touchdowns

— It’s going to be tough for Dillon Yazel to top his opening-week performance.

Yazel, a senior, carried 14 times for 415 yards and 6 touchdowns to lead Hackett to a 58-35 victory over Gore, Okla., on Friday.

Yazel also had two receptions for 47 yards and another touchdown.

All of Yazel’s touchdown runs were at least 30 yardslong. He scored on runs of 37 and 79 yards in the first quarter, then added touchdown runs of 30 and 74 in the second quarter.

He scored on runs of 60 and 91 yards in the third quarter, when he also caught a 26-yard touchdown pass from Logan Bennett.

Dakota McBride added 10 carries for 135 yards and 1 touchdown for Hackett. Bennett also threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Dexter Holcombe.

SUPER SIX DARDANELLE 34, DANVILLE 27

DARDANELLE - Stephen Calane’s 83-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter provided the difference for Dardenelle at home.

The Sand Lizards took a 20-6 halftime lead on touchdown receptions by Will Lawrence and Matt Berner and a pair of field goals by Randy Velasquez, including a 54-yarder in the second quarter.

Jaylen Ester scored twice for Danville, ranked No. 2 in Class 2A.

BEARDEN 35, CAMDEN HARMONY GROVE 14

CAMDEN - Defonta Lowe scored two touchdowns to lead Bearden, ranked No. 4 in Class 2A, to the victory at Camden Harmony Grove.

Lowe opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 15-yard touchdown run. In the third quarter, he added a 1-yard scoring run.

B.J. Ross added a 1-yard touchdown run for Bearden in the fourth quarter.

Lavern Hicks scored a touchdown for Camden Harmony Grove.

STRONG 35, ENGLAND 29

STRONG - The Strong Bulldogs, ranked No. 5 in Class 2A, earned a victory over England at Jerry Burson Field behind running back Kenneth Dixon. Dixon ran 15 times for 305 yards and five touchdowns, including a 50-yard touchdown run on Strong’s first play.

England moved the ball behind Quintin Woods, who ran 30 times for four touchdowns and 171 yards.

MINERAL SPRINGS 42, FOUKE 20

MINERAL SPRINGS - Mineral Springs, ranked No. 6 in Class 2A, accounted for 433 yards in the first half and took a 42-6 at halftime in a victory over Fouke.

Rashad Williams had 10 carries for 184 yards and 3 touchdowns for the Hornets. Quarterback JuJuan Turner completed 4 of 5 passes for 126 yards and 2 touchdowns and rushed for 123 yards and another touchdown.

5-2A MAGNET COVE 34, MOUNT IDA 13

MAGNET COVE - Jeffery Pinkstonscored three touchdowns to help lead Magnet Cove to a victory over Mount Ida.

Pinkston scored on runs of 11 yards in the second quarter, then added scoring runs of 20 yards and 1 yard in the fourth period.

Quarterback Hunter Linam opened the scoring with a 16-yard touchdown pass to Austin Stringfellow, then ran 5 yards for a score in the second quarter.

Mount Ida pulled within 28-13 in the third quarter when a tipped pass resulted in a 42-yard touchdown.

6-2A AUGUSTA 14, HAZEN 14

HAZEN - Senior quarterback Cordell Turner’s touchdown helped Augusta tie Hazen.

EAST POINSETT COUNTY 57, PALESTINE-WHEATLEY 6

WHEATLEY - Running back A.J. Turner ran for two touchdowns, caught a touchdown pass and returned an interception for another score to lead East Poinsett County to an opening victory over Palestine-Wheatley.

Besides the two touchdown runs, Turner ran back his interception 57 yards with 9:31 left in the second quarter. With 59 seconds left in the half, Turner caught a 48-yard scoring pass from Austin Prince.

Jammar Sturdivant also had touchdown runs for 10 and 38 yards, Darius Barnes ran 38 yards for a touchdown and Caleb Parson had a 20-yard touchdown run.

Barnes, Trevor McDaniel and Tristan McDaniel all scored two-point conversions. Blake Carter kicked three extra points.

Palestine-Wheatley’s Gabriel Harris scored its only touchdown. Harris also rushed for 97 yards on 12 carries.

7-2A HORATIO 70, WOODLAWN 14

HORATIO - Corey Moreland ran for 125 yards and two touchdowns and threw for another to lead Horatio past Woodlawn.

Jalon Frachiseur added 89 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns for the Lions.His scoring runs of 4, 6 and 1 yard in the first quarter, along with an 11-yard touchdown run by Moreland spotted Horatio to a 28-7 first-quarter lead.

Moreland threw a 45-yard touchdown pass to Isauro Gonzalez and scored on a 2-yard run in the second quarter. Ty Young added a 7-yard touchdown run.

Cody Harris scored on a 2-yard touchdown run and threw a 10-yard scoring pass to Daniel Gonzalez in the third quarter. Kyle Cornish added a 43-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter.

Blake Brown scored on an 80-yard kickoff return for Woodlawn.

8-2A PARKERS CHAPEL 33, DES ARC 12

PARKERS CHAPEL - Parkers Chapel rolled up 320 yards rushing, including 189 by Philip Hay in a victory over Des Arc at Victor Nipper Stadium.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Trojans broke through with a six-play, 38-yard drive that was started after Evan McKinnon returned a punt 14 yards. Craig Rich scored on a 3-yard run to put the Trojans ahead 6-0.

Back-to-back carries by Hay netted 17 and 15 yards on their next possession to give the Trojans a first-and-goal from the 5 beforeMcKinnon scored on a 6-yard run around the left side. Hay ran in for the two-point conversion to make it 14-0 at halftime.

Hay then showed his big-play abilities in abundance in the second half, and he began by breaking free for 50-yard touchdown run on the fourth play of the half.

The Eagles scored on a 35-yard run by Luke Devorak with 1:26 to play in the third quarter, but on the ensuing kickoff, John Tyson ran through the middle of the coverage and raced 48 yards to Des Arc’s 27.

On the next play, Hay scored around the right side to make it 26-6 after three quarters. He then capped his big evening with a 5-yard touchdown run with 5:46 to play before Devorak scored the game’s final points on a 10-yard run.
