Kite season remains aloft in Benton, Siloam Springs

— The American Kite fliers Association includes Arkansas in its Region 8, along with Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Louisiana.

The association lists kite-related events in Arkansas at tkogunn1.tripod.com/kitecalender.htm.

Already this spring, Arkansans have flown kites in the Cane Hill Kite Festival in Cane Hill, the Eureka Springs Kite Festival at Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge and at Pinnacle Mountain State Park near Little Rock.

The third annual Benton Kite Festival, 10 a.m.

to 4 p.m. April 14 at Watts Field, the old Saline County Airport.

The airport can be reached from Interstate 30 by using Exit 116.

Organizer Joy Buchanan says admission is free and everyone is invited to come fly a kite. Free kites will be provided for the first 500 people, along with free popcorn and water. Other vendors will sell snacks; child-friendly activities including Molly the firetruck will be there, and professional kite fliers will demonstrate their skills.

Tenth annual Siloam Springs Kite Day, noon to 2 p.m.

April 14, Siloam Springs Airport on Arkansas 59. Open to everyone and free, this is a chance to fly kites for fun rather than competition.

Kids will find inflatables and other activities.

The city Parks and Recreation Department will supply kits and kite-making materials for the first 200 children.
