HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Centennial luncheon feeds families of pioneer stock

— In celebration of 100 years as an organization, the State Association of Arkansas Pioneers held a centennial luncheon April 5 at the Governor’s Mansion.

The association was formed by Harriet Woodruff Jabine for those whose families were listed in the 1850 Federal Census as living in Arkansas.

The Centennial Committee, along with the chefs at the Governor’s Mansion, planned a lunch around foods that were available back in pioneer times.

Courses included an appetizer of venison, golden raisins and rosemary meatballs and an entree of stewed chicken and Arkansas rice pilaf with dried cherries and black walnuts.

Speakers at the luncheon were Judge Morris Sheppard Arnold, Judge Robert Laidlaw Brown, Cathie Remmel Matthews and Bill Worthen.

Committee members were chairman Helen Bond, Gayle Anderson, Anthony Black, Anne Fulk, Anne Grimes, Frances Jernigan and association president Richard Butler.
