UCA’s Elliott indicted, suspended

— Central Arkansas junior defensive end Tevin Elliott was indicted on three counts of sexual assault Monday in McLennan County, Texas, and has been suspended for the Bears’ game at Mississippi on Saturday.

Investigators said two counts refer to an alleged assault at an April 15 party in Waco, Texas. The Waco Tribune-Herald reported Tuesday that details of the other count are sealed because Elliott has not been arrested in that case.

Baylor suspended Elliott on April 27 for unspecified team violations. He was charged with sexual assault April 30 and freed on $10,000 bond. Elliott, who is from Mount Pleasant, Texas, transferred to UCA in July.

Elliott’s attorney, Jason Darling, told the Tribune-Herald the allegations are not true and the April 15 sexual encounter was consensual. Darling added he knows nothing about the third count.

After learning of the indictment, Bears Coach Clint Conque announced in a statement Tuesdaythat Elliott will serve a one-game suspension Saturday.

“In regards to defensive end Tevin Elliott, I will not comment on a situation that may have occurred in another state while Tevin was attending another institution, prior to his enrollment at the University of Central Arkansas,” Conque said in the statement. “I fully support the idea that everyone deserves second chances. Since enrolling at our institution in July, Tevin has met all expectations of our coaching staff. He realizes the significance of this opportunity.

“When discussing the possibility of transferring to UCA, Tevin, his family and others that were consulted, were upfront and forthcoming in regards to this situation. Moving forward, we will continue to gather any additional information and proceed accordingly. I will have no further comment on this situation at this time.”

Elliott, 6-3, 259 pounds, had 63 tackles and 8 sacks in 2 seasons at Baylor.
