Smackover woman killed crossing highway

A Smackover woman was killed Monday evening while trying to cross Arkansas 7 on foot in Union County, authorities said.

Melinda K. Taylor, 51, was attempting to walk across the highway at Sumac Road when she was hit by a 2003 Toyota Camry heading south, according to an Arkansas State Police report.

The accident happened a little after 6 p.m., state police said.

Taylor was dead at the scene and taken to a funeral home in El Dorado.

The Camry’s driver and passenger were unhurt.

Taylor was the 505th person to die in a traffic accident in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
