— A driver was killed and a passenger hurt Tuesday night in Jackson County when a pickup struck a culvert and overturned, authorities said.

Arkansas State Police say Christopher Dunn, 34, of Newport was driving a 1994 Chevy pickup south on Arkansas 17 in Diaz when the truck left the road about 7:30 p.m.

According to a preliminary report, the pickup then struck a culvert and overturned. The roadway was reportedly wet at the time.

Dunn died from unspecified injuries. A passenger, identified as Leah McGinnis, 34, of Newport, was taken to Harris Hospital in Newport. No information on her condition was released.

Dunn is the 508th person to die in a traffic accident in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
