A leak in the University of Arkansas for Medical Science's water circulation system is causing the water in a nearby ditch to run red, City of Little Rock officials said in a news release Friday.
The discolored water running through Plateau Ditch is caused by a dye added to the medical center's hot water circulation system, which does not normally connect to the city's storm water system, the release states. UAMS is attempting to locate and repair the leak.
City officials and the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality said the dye is not toxic or harmful.
