LR gas station robbed at gunpoint

LITTLE ROCK — Authorities are looking for two men who beat a clerk while robbing a gas station in Little Rock late Thursday night.
The Little Rock Police Department says two men dressed in all black entered the Conoco station at 10200 N. Rodney Parham Road about 11:10 p.m. and demanded cash. One was armed with a handgun.
According to a report, the clerk gave them the money from the register before they demanded more. The clerk told them it was in the safe.
"The first suspect tried to open the safe but could not get in it," police wrote in the report. "The first suspect stated to the second one 'Get him, bust him.' The second suspect struck [the clerk] in the left eye with his fist."
A scuffle followed, police said, during which the clerk was able to pull off a skull cap one of the robbers was using to hide his face. That man reportedly hid his face as he ran from the business and was followed by the second assailant.
The robbers are described as black men who stood about 5-foot-9. One weighed about 250 pounds and was 20 to 25 years old. The second weighed about 160.
The incident marked the second gas station robbery in as many days after the Exxon at 7600 Cantrell Road was robbed at gunpoint Wednesday night.

Need to contact Tommy Robinson. Have him hold classes to learn how to prevent this. He slowed down the liquor store robberies when he was in office!

Same old story. LR, NLR and Pulaski County has become a "wild west" of crime. It is already out of control. they know the profile of these retards and retreads. Divert police from traffic and "community policing" and go after the thugs. Unless the D.A. is willing to go after sitffer sentences and the parole boards quit filling the streets with hoodlums this will continue. It is a breakdown in criminal justice, these bums have enough sense to see a hole in the system and are abusing it and cashing it on it.

Again, you need to crack down on these hoods, but you also need to have social services start taking the young children out of the unfit homes where these kids grow up. Birth control should be readily available and anti-teenage pregnancy campaigns need to be taught in the schools. Community Centers need renovation and expanded programs which are free for children in need. Flood the Little Rock schools with better programs and more computers. If Little Rock does not do a better job of ridding itself of crime and child abuse, another generation of hoods will be doing this in 10 years.

Populist.....You are dreaming again! At least you now state that children should be taken from the homes that are unfit but....as a lawyer you claim to be, you should know that ain't gonna happen! It should happen but...it ain't gonna!
Anti-pregnancy campaigns in schools and birth control available! what a crock! What about the parents who have taught their daughters to have christian morals? They don't need the school system tempting their young daughters by offering free birth control. By birth control do you also mean abortions in the nurse's office? Do you mean free condoms or birth control pills without seeing their personal physician or getting their parents approval? If that had been offered to one of my three daughters, I would have gone to the school and beat the hell out of whoever told my daughters that! I must be right because none of my daughters needed birth control.....they were taught by their mother and me to have christian morals! That can work....put God back into our schools and teach reading, writing, and arithmatic and let parents handle their children!
For the parents that are not willing to raise their children to understand right from wrong and enforce it upon them, then get a law passed that puts the parents in a hard core prison work program for a few years while the children are placed in good homes or some government school and housing community.

Even if more computers in schools were the answer, which they aren't, that would help when -- fifteen years from now?

I agree with Jackabbott. The thugs get put away but are on parole and back on the streets before serving even half their sentences. The system is broken when thieves/murders have more rights than a law-abiding citizen. I wrote this yesterday about the guy sentenced to 30 years for robbing the Centennial bank: " What is wrong with our justice system? Hill was convicted of first degree murder in 1992. The article doesn't say how many years he served. In 2007 he was acquitted on a car-jacking charge but subsequently charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was sentenced to 13 years in prison - but paroled in 2010! In February 2011, he was charged with cocaine possession and having fictitious license plates on his car, but those charges were dropped when he was sentenced last week for armed bank robbery in May 2011. Who knows what else he did during his time out of jail/prison for which he was never caught. Obviously, he was not rehabilitated in prison. Why was this guy back on the streets in 2010? The parol board or someone in our justice system needs to answer for this."

Put the prisons back to hard labor, bread and water, and harsh punishment not hand slapping. Then impose the sentences to full time that only the governor can change or pardon. See how fast crime goes down.

One thing that slowed crime like this, it may have been during TR's days as sheriff, was to put a clothed police officer with shotgun in the store. Out of sight; in the office, behind see thru glass, not always visible, etc. Crooks got the word and not knowing where they were, ready to blow them away, thought again about this kind of robbery. Not to say they are not doing it now but if so, they need to step it up. If one robber is caught or shot by an officer in the store, word will get out. Regardless, I'm sure places of business can hire an off duty officer to do the same. I saw a sticker in a store window once of an officer behind a shotgun saying the area is under armed guard. Made me wonder where he was hiding.

Hey Populist - "Flood the Little Rock schools with better programs and more computers." This statement shows a level of ignorance that is not terminal. Un-ignorant yourself and go to the LRSD website. There you will be enlightened as the the "flood" of programs available within the district, including state-of-the-art computer labs. Next, go to the website of the Pottsville School District (I randomly picked this school based on recent results of standardized test scores). Compare things like per pupil funding, extra programs, test scores, dropout rates, and teacher salaries. You will quickly find the Pottsville district substantially out performs the LRSD on all positive measureable outputs at a fraction of the cost of resources, including additonal programs. More computers and costly programs? The evidence says this idea is nonsense.

Pottsville does have state of the art computer labs, but the Little Rock schools do not. They may have some computers, but they don't have state of the art equipment. Too much LRSD money is spent on lawyers and administrators. When was the last time McClellan was totally renovated. It is hard to concentrate in that building. Looking at the websites, too little information is given. You have schools where majorities of the kids are not even proficient readers. Other school districts put those kids in remedial reading classes before they move them on. LRSD is just passing them on. Most of the Little Rock schools are in a shambles. We need to hire people from more successful school districts, and we need to spend the money on capable people --not nitwits.
