Survey team to check Jefferson County for possible tornado

— A survey team from the National Weather Service will tour part of Jefferson County to determine whether a tornado touched down there as storms moved through early Thursday.

John Robinson, senior warning coordination meteorologist with the weather service in North Little Rock, said the storm tracked from north of White Hall across the Pine Bluff Arsenal to north of Astoria. Some damage was reported on Arkansas 365.

Officials will examine that damage and any other it finds in the area to see whether it was caused by a severe thunderstorm or a tornado. Radar images reportedly showed signs of a possible tornado in the area, though the information was not definitive.

The survey team on Thursday visited the Sheridan area in Grant County, where an EF1 tornado was determined to have touched down.

One home was destroyed in that area, several others were damaged and numerous trees and utility poles were downed.
