CABOT - Gerald Harlis “Bud” Shock, 75, of Cabot, died Thursday, December 20, 2012. He was born May 17, 1937, in Austin, Arkansas, to the late John F. and Hazel O. Griffin Shock. He was a member of Baugh Chapel Baptist Church, the Cabot Jaycees and served as a volunteer firefighter. Bud owned and operated many businesses in Cabot, including The Cabot Insurance Agency, K Center Mini Mall and car wash, Bud’s Roller Rink and Cabot Highlander laundry mat. Additionally he developed land for many businesses in Cabot and served on the Centennial Bank Board when it was The Bank of Cabot. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a great grandson, Casey Dennis Perkins.

Survivors are his wife, Martha Evans Shock; his children, Curtis Shock and Cathy Semon; his sister, Jean Davenport; four grandchildren, Dennis and Scott Perkins and Tyler and Corey Shock; and two great-grandchildren, Caleb and Alyssa, all of Cabot.

CAMDEN - Katherine Deloris Stone, 77, of Camden, Ark., passed away Thursday, December 20, 2012, at Mercy Hospital in Hot Springs, Ark. She was born March 1, 1935, to Bryan and Lois Parson Baxley in Bauxite, Ark. She was a member of Cullendale First Baptist Church, Camden Flower Club, Hospital Auxiliary and Eastern Star.

FORREST CITY - Mr. Billy Peyton Doty, age 73, passed away onDec.19, 2012, at the Forrest City Medical Center. He was born Jan. 9, 1939, in McCool, Miss., to Marvin P. and Lona Kerr Doty. He was preceded in death by his parents and a youngerbrother, Bobby J. Doty.

Bill graduated from Forrest City High School and was a proud member of the Mustang Football team. He was awarded a football scholarship to the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattisburg.

He was employed with Arkansas Power & Light Hamilton Moses Plant for 15 years and for 20 years was owner/operator of The Brass Lantern. During that time, he was very active in the Forrest City Merchants Association.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church and a 32nd degree Mason. He served six years in the National Guard.

Bill is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carolyn Whitley Doty; brothers-in-law, Ronald Whitley, Melbourne, Fla., Bob White, Hot Springs; sisters-in-law Joyce Whitley, Benton, Betty McCollum (Bill), Lenexa, Kan.; nephews, Curt Whitley (Susan) Benton, Blake Whitley (Laura) Hot Springs, Dennis Bailey (Jayna) Olympia, Wash.; nieces, Tammy Halbert, Forrest City, Allison Stevens, Overland Park, Kan., Brooke Griffths (John) Overland Park, Kan., Laura Stanion (Bob) Shawnee, Kan. and many great nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

LONOKE - Bobby Boone Hicks, 92, of Lonoke, died December 21,2012. He was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, serving faithfully with the Lonoke Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He exercised faith in the Bible’s promise of a resurrection to life on aparadise earth. (John 5:28, 29). Mr. Hicks farmed and was an agricultural pilot.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Majory Perry Hicks; his parents, Olin and Clara Hicks; brothers, Thomas Hicks and Olin Hicks, Jr.; sisters, Clara Hicks Coe and Nelle Hicks Dietrich. He is survived by his son, Stephen Hicks.

MAGNOLIA - Tony T. Wilson, 65, passed away Thursday, December 20, 2012 surrounded by loving family at the Baptist Health System in Little Rock, Arkansas after a brief and courageous battle with lung cancer.

Tony was bornApril 22, 1947 in Magnolia to the late Harvey and Eva Graves Wilson and predeceased in death by a brother Boise Dean Wilson. He was Columbia County Tax Assessor for 18 years, had retired from Key Energy Services and was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church. He loved fishing, his Arkansas Razorbacks and his beloved dog, Lindy.

Tony is survived by his wife, Paulette Wilson of Magnolia, step-daughters Jennifer Smith and husband Rusty of White Hall, Jamie Boyd and husband Mike of Magnolia, and Marian Edwards and husband Robert of Magnolia, his in laws Paul and Beth Whitley of Magnolia and Byron and Marylynn Whitley of Haynesville, Louisiana, five grandchildren and a dear friend, John Roewe of Spokane, Washington.

The family would like to thank Baptist Health Systems CCU doctors and nurses for the attention, compassion, and concern they showed Tony during his brief stay.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 23 at Western Cemetery with Rev. Mike Daniel officiating under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home, Inc. of Magnolia. Visitation will be Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

PINE BLUFF - Billy F. Herrin Sr., 81, of Pine Bluff, died Thursday, December 20, 2012 in Lake Village. He was born October 29, 1931 in Bluffton, Arkansas, son of Claud and Cleatha Cox Herrin. Mr. Herrin was reared and received his early educationin Dumas. He owned and operated Billy’s Wrecker Service for over 45 years in Pine Bluff.

Mr. Herrin was a member of First Pentecostal Church of God. He also served as a special deputy in the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Flynn; and step-brother, Junior Rice.

Survivors include his wife, Connie Walter Herrin, whom he married November 15, 1969 in Pine Bluff; three sons, Billy Herrin, Jr. of Pine Bluff, Freddie Herrin and Dennis Herrin, both of White Hall; step-daughter, Debbie James of White Hall; two brothers, Boyd Herrin of La Mesa, California and Ross Herrin of Dumas; sister, Janie Heier of Searcy; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Sunday, December 23, 2012 in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Brother James Miller and Reverend B.J. Johnson officiating. ROE - Claude William Cruthis, Sr. passed away December 20, 2012. Born to John H. Cruthis and Elsie Cruthis on January 14, 1934, Claude was a lifelong farmer and resident of Monroe County. His life was full and vibrant, filled with the joys of faith, family and friends. Only his Creator stood in higher regard than his family and community. A devoted father, husband and friend, Claude was the definition of a patriarch to his extended family.

Claude’s greatest sorrow was the loss of his son, Johnny, to cancer. He is survived by his bride of 58 years, Katherine; two sons Claude William “Bill” Cruthis (Sindy) and Terry Cruthis (Debbie); a “son” David Carruth (Cheryl); four grandchildren, Trey Cruthis, Brittany Howard, Lee Cruthis and Sarah Holmes; four great-grandchildren, Ryanne, Drake, Ellie and Zane.

Claude was a community leader serving on numerous boards, committees and associations, including the Clarendon School Board, Roe Men’s Club and the Farmers Home Administration County Committee.

STUTTGART - Mildred Ann Pollan Hines, of Stuttgart, Arkansas, died December 21, 2012, age 85, of natural causes.

She was born February 22, 1927, in Itta Bena, Mississippi, the only child of Mildred (Tootie) and Governor Richard (Gov) Pollan. She graduated from Clarksdale, Mississippi, High School in 1945 and was a 64-year, active member of First Baptist Church, Stuttgart. She was also a member of the American Association of Retired Persons, Senior Corps’ RSVP and the Arkansas County Retired Teachers’ Association.

Ann was baptized at age 12 at Clarksdale Baptist Church to begin a life-long relationship with God. Married in 1949, Ann and her husband, John, moved from Clarksdale to Stuttgart so that John could work as a lumber grader (later manager) of Townsend Lumber Mill (acquired later by Potlatch Corporation.) Like many of “The Greatest Generation” families following WWII, Ann and John worked diligently to successfully raise their three baby-boomer sons.

Ann was a full-time homemaker before beginning herprofessional career. For seventeen years until her retirement, she worked for Stuttgart Public Schools, primarily as secretary to Peggy Gingerich at Julia Shannon Elementary School. Ann was a devoted wife and mother, always placing others’ needs before her own. Wife, mother, youth leader, Baptist, caretaker and friend, she continually gave of herself. In her retirement, she particularly valued her close-knit group of “Golden Girl” friends Mary Bisbee, Margaret Tackett and Deanna Shook, neighbor Betty G. Wilson, “pew-mate” Mary Humphrey and her many other friends at First Baptist Church of Stuttgart.

Ann and her family greatly appreciate the care given to her over the past few years by Dr. Mervin Terrell and the staff at Trinity Village, Pine Bluff, most recently Dr. Noble Daniel and the staff at Crestpark Retirement Inn of Stuttgart, and Arkansas Hospice.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Hines, in 1992.

Survivors include three sons: John Richard (Rick) Hines, H. Alan Hines, both of Stuttgart, and David K. Hines of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; five grandchildren: Sarah Hines Wilson and husband Mark of Maumelle, Ark., Laura Hines Bullock of Little Rock, Ark., John W. Hines of Del Rey Beach, Fla., Specialist David Hines, Jr. of Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas, Olivia Hines of Fayetteville, Ark., two great-grandchildren: Logan and Riley Wilson; niece Ruth E. (Betsy) Hines Scroggs, her husband James, children Elizabeth (Liz)of Silver Spring, Md., and James (Ian) of Washington, D.C.; and scores of friends.

Visitation will be on Saturday, December 22, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Turpin Funeral Home. Funeral service will be conducted by Dr. Sam Roberts at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 23, at First Baptist Church, followed by a brief family-only graveside service at Lone Tree Cemetery.
