Conway college hits $10 million to build

— Central Baptist College says it has raised more than $10 million aimed at financing various construction projects over the next 10 years.

The school said it received a $1.3 million gift in mid-November, putting the fund-raising total at $10,078,865.

“A major benefit of the additional $1.3 million pledge is the opportunity for the [college] to construct a new [library] facility instead of renovating the existing structure,” Central Baptist said in a news release.

Construction of a two-story building on the current site of the Administration/Library Building will start in early 2013 once demolition takes place. The new library will be just more than 16,000 square feet, the college said.

The school launched the fundraising campaign in February 2011 with a $12 million goal to fund three construction projects — the David T. Watkins Academic Building, which was completed this year; the library project; and then the construction of a residence hall.

The school said it hopes to use the money to complete 10 construction projects over 10 years.
