LITTLE ROCK — Twenty-seven young women were introduced to society Dec. 22 in the Grand Ballroom of The Peabody Little Rock at the 62nd annual Debutante Scholarship Ball sponsored by The Central Arkansas Sphinx Foundation and the Pi Lambda chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha.
The debutantes, high school seniors and college freshmen, were chosen based on academic excellence. Each woman was nominated by a high school teacher or guidance counselor based on community involvement, academic achievement and professional goals.
After their presentation, the young ladies had their first waltz with their presenters, who were their fathers, a male relative or a family friend. Their next waltz was with their escorts. The evening also included a dinner, followed by more dancing.
Event co-chairmen were Jason Hamilton, president of the foundation, and Jeremy Owoh, president of Pi Lambda.
