Former Supreme Court justice among 2012 Arkansas deaths

A retired state Supreme Court justice who fought election fraud as a trial attorney during the 1960s was among the notable Arkansans who died in 2012.

Retired Justice Tom Glaze was 74 when he died in March. Glaze was an attorney for the Election Research Council that was funded by future Gov. Winthrop Rockefeller and worked to eliminate fraud in state politics.

Others who died during 2012 include former Associated Press bureau chief Bill Simmons, longtime state Capitol reporter Joan Duffy, former Cosmopolitan magazine editor Helen Gurley Brown and drummer and singer Levon Helm of The Band.

Murphy Oil Corp. Chairman William Nolan Jr., former state Rep. Lloyd George and former Little Rock mayor and state Rep. George Wimberly also died during the year.
