STEVEN MARK (STEVE) BRYLES, age 55, of Little Rockand Blytheville, passed away Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock after a valiant battle with esophageal cancer. He served as a State Senator, 2001-10, representingMississippi and Poinsett Counties in his native Delta. At the time of his death, Steve was the Director of the Arkansas Livestock & Poultry Commission. He was the eldest son of Mark Benjamin Bryles and Velma Louise McReynolds Bryles of Blytheville. Steve leaves in mourning and to cherish his memory beloved wife Pamela Morehead Bryles of Little Rock and their children Emily Fitzgerald Bryles of Fayetteville, Caitlyn Fitzgerald Bryles of Little Rock and Mark Benjamin (Ben) Bryles of Little Rock. His wife and children were the center of his life. Steve graduated from Blytheville High School in 1975 and attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville where he majored in Agricultural Business and joined Sigma Chi Fraternity. He was a Life Loyal Sig. In 1984, Steve launched his 27 year career as an independent cotton merchant having learned the trade from past generations of colorful figures in the business including those on Cotton Row on Front Street in Memphis. Steve held leadership positions in many professional and civic organizations including the Blytheville Jaycees, Chamber of Commerce and Blytheville Rotary Club among others. He was a Paul Harris Fellow. Steve enjoyed music, particularly flat pick guitar, reading, family genealogy and the outdoors. He was a fifth generation Arkansan whose great great grandparents came to Arkansas in the 1840’s and 50’s. Steve is survived by his parents, wife, children and brothers, William Thomas Bryles (Anne) of Hickory Plains, Roger Kent Bryles (Mary Jane) of Fayetteville and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of loyal friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents William Thomas and Addie Elizabeth Stanley Bryles of Hickory Plains (Edward Community) and Luther Ralph and Ruby Pearl Warren McReynolds of Dutch Mills. A celebration of Steve’s life will be held at services on Thursday, January 3, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Second Presbyterian Church in Little Rock and on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2012, at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Blytheville. THELMA LOUISE CLARK, passed away on Dec. 28, 2012.She was born on July 17, 1921, in Monticello to the late John and Gertrude Hadley. Thelma worked at Sterlings in Little Rock and then for West’s Department Stores before retiring.She was a member of East End Baptist Church and was bapitized at Saint Mary Lake. She enjoyed canning, gardening and cooking. She treasured the time she spent raising her family most of all. Thelma is preceded in death by her husband, Bryan Lee Clark; her parents; her son, Robert Stanley Clark; her sister, Mary Emma Luther; her daughter-in-law, Juliette B. Clark; her grandson, Todd Clark and a great-grandchild, Hunter. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, William Lee Clark, Gary Gene Clark and his wife Tish, Debra K. Burdess and Denna G. Shelton and her husband Keith; her daughter-in-law, Thelma June Clark her 15 grandchildren; her 20 great-grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends who will miss her dearly. BILLY BOB SULLIVAN, age 80, of Little Rock, passed away Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012. He was born June 26, 1932, in Bauxite, Ark. Billy was a member of Mars Hill Missionary Baptist Church. He was the longtime owner of Bill’s Station in Sweet Home. Billy was known nationwide as an Antique Cadillac Restoration Expert. IMELDA MARY WHITBEY, 92, of Little Rock, passed away onSaturday, Dec. 29, 2012. She was born on Saturday, Aug. 21, 1920, in Morrison Bluff to the late Frank and Lonie (Kreese) Neuman. S h e was a member of Sacred Heart CatholicChurch. She was a member of the Altar Society and Catholic Women’s Union. She is survived by her sons, Bill Whitbey (Rita), Jerome Whitbey (Theresia), Eddie Whitbey (Lisa), Larry Whitbey (Sandy), and Dennis Whitbey (Kelley); daughters, Joan Mayes (Dennis) and Mary Edwards (Rick); 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. In addition to his parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-four years, William Thomas Whitbey Jr.; grandson, Kevin Whitbey; great-granddaughter, Lillian Henson; and brother, Martin Neuman. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Morrilton with Father Jack Harris officiating. STANLEY W. (BILL) YATES, of Little Rock, passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 28, 2012. He was born on Jan. 31, 1922, in Clyde, Ark. to the late Stanley Winfield Yates and Annie Merriwether Yates. He attended the University of Arkansas, enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, was stationed in England with the 100 Bomb Group and flew 35 missions as a bombardier aboard a B17. He was awarded two bronze stars for his service. He, J.C. Mitchell, John Duckett and Elvin Phelps founded Mitchell Machinery Company in 1963. Bill became President in 1976 upon the death of J.C. Mitchell. He served as President of AED and as an associate member of AGC. Bill was a deacon at First Presbyterian Church, was a member of Second Presbyterian Church. He also served as a member of theboard at Presbyterian Village. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Melba DuVall Yates, his son Stan Yates and his special friend Lola Selph, his daughter, Lea Ann Reeves and her husband Jim, grandsons, Drew and Brian Reeves. He is also survived by his Nieces, Elaine Glover and Linda Allen, and nephew David Benton. Bill was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sarah Louise Yates, his sisters, Louise Brewster and Marie Benton and his nephew, Lowell Brewster. A Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 2, at 11 a.m. at Second Presbyterian Church with Rev. Karen Aiken officiating. Burial services will be private at Forest Hills Memorial Park. BENTONVILLE - Billy Leroy Harrell was born Sept. 3, 1934,in Faulkner Gap, Ark., to Willis and Pearl (Pearson) Harrell. On Dec. 29, 2012, at Bradford House in Bentonville, Bill lost his long battle with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Bill was raisedin Pulaski County and graduated from North Little Rock High School in 1953. At 17, he joined the Arkansas Army National Guard. He remained in the Guard for the next 43 years, also working as a civilian employee for 35 years. Bill is survived by his wife of 58 years, Martha (Gregg) Harrell; two children, daughter Donna and son-in-law David Davis of Bentonville and son Stacey and wife Linda Harrell of Vilonia. Four grandchildren, Steven and wife Holly Davis, Ashley and husband Josh Stewart of Bentonville, Scott Harrell of Vilonia, Sara and husband Branson Sutter of Conway; one great-grandchild, Annalynn Sutter of Conway. Two sisters, Felece Gassman of North Little Rock and Martha Ann Robinson of Morrilton. He was preceded in death by his father, Willis Harrell; mother, Pearl Cherry; and one sister, Yvonne Cagle. CONWAY - Bobby Rex King, 90, of Conway, died Dec. 29, 2012.He was born Nov. 25, 1922, son of Troy and Vera (Bell) King of Mount Vernon. He was a postmaster and rural mail carrier for 40 years, and was a member of the National Association of Postmasters and Rural Letter Carriers. He was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church, Cadron Creek Masonic Lodge of Mount Vernon for over 50 years, serving in every official capacity. He is survived by his son, Robert R. HENSLEY - Horten Donald Hurn, 89, of Hensley, Ark., diedFriday, Dec. 28, 2012. On Dec. 12, 1923, Horten Donald Hurn came into this world in St. Louis, Mo., and gave life his all until he breathed his last on Dec. 28, 2012. With a cool confidenceand his slick, black hair, many knew “H.D.” Always the loudest man in the room, talking or laughing or flirting, he gave new meaning to “never meeting a stranger.” At 17, H. D. ran off and joined the Navy and after serving in WW2 he moved to Little Rock and worked for his father’s business, Superior Spring Company of North Little Rock, for 26 years. In 1946, H.D. managed to capture Christine Hurn and she has supported him for 66 years, and has survived him. After his father died, H. D. ran off and started his own business, Hurn’s Superior Alignment in Little Rock, and worked with his son and wife for many years. Officially retiring in 1986, there was never a fish safe when he was near water. Battling one cancer after another he was constantly surprised to live 89 years. H. D. often said, “If I had known I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself.” He was preceded in death by his parents, Agnes (LeBrier) Hurn and Orville Ray Hurn; his daughter, Alice Martin; brother, Roy Hurn; and sister, Juanita Wright. His wife, Christine Hurn, survives him in death as well as his son, Donald Hurn, and wife, Nancy. He leaves behind sister, Betty Kaplan; grandsons, Benjamin Hurn (Heather), Paul Hurn, (Holly); granddaughters, Jennifer Hurn, Hannah Paulling (Sam), and Amanda Dean (Frank); as well as great-granddaughters, Lauren and Mackenzie Tracy; son-in-law, Billy Martin, and family and friends. JUDSONIA - Mable Jewel Gentry, 89, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012.She was born Sept. 14, 1923, in Manila, Ark., to the late Frank and Ima Mathney Short. She moved to White County in December of 1947. Mable was a member of West Race Baptist Church; sheloved gospel music and leading singing. WARD - Carolyn Ann Cook, age 73, of Ward, passed away Dec.25, 2012, at her home. She was born Sept. 15, 1939, in Brasfield, to the late Lester and Madge Washam Miller; also proceeded in death by brother, Charles David Miller.
