Goodwin’s 21 enough for Bears

— Archie Goodwin led Sylvan Hills (18-5, 7-0 5A-Southeast) with 21 points as the Bears cruised to a 74-47 victory over the Helena-West Helena Central Cougars on Tuesday night before a crowd of approximately 700 at the Cougar Gymnasium.

The Cougars jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first minute of the game, but the Bears outscored Helena-West Helena 19-8 over the rest of the quarter and cruised from that point forward. Goodwin hit two three-pointers in the second quarter to help break the game open and put the Bears up by 15 points at the half.

Any hopes of a comeback by the Cougars were quickly dashed in the third quarter when the Bears started the second half on a 16-4 run. By the end of the quarter, Sylvan Hills had the mercy rule in effect with a 69-38 lead.

Trey Smith added 14 points for Sylvan Hills and Larry Ziegler had 10. Anthony Lewis led Helena-West Helena Central with 14 points.
