Cousin arrested after man killed in LR shooting

— A Little Rock man was fatally shot during an argument with his cousin Wednesday night outside an apartment complex on John Barrow Road, authorities said.

Little Rock Police Department spokesman Michelle Howard said 28-year-old Nakia Holmes was dead on the sidewalk in front of 1770 John Barrow Road when police arrived just after 10 p.m. to investigate a shooting.

Holmes' cousin, 28-year-old James Threats, was arrested on a charge of first-degree murder when he came to the crime scene shortly after the shooting occurred, police said.

Prosecutors said during Threats' initial appearance in Little Rock District Court Thursday that Threats retrieved a shotgun and fatally shot Holmes during the argument. Investigators have not specified what started the dispute.

District Court Judge Alice Lightle entered a preliminary innocent plea for Threats. He was also ordered held in lieu of a $1 million bond during the brief appearance, which was made by video from the Pulaski County jail

The case marks the sixth homicide in Little Rock so far this year.
