Severe storms possible today

— Severe thunderstorms are possible across much of the state today and Tuesday, the National Weather Service said.

John Robinson, warning coordination meteorologist with the weather service in North Little Rock, said "quite a few thunderstorms" are likely to develop Monday, with some of them reaching severe levels. Damaging winds are considered the primary threat.

The storms are most likely to occur between the early afternoon and mid-evening, Robinson said in a statement. In Little Rock, the weather service forecasts a 70 percent chance of thunderstorms.

Storms are again possible Tuesday over the southeastern half of the state, Robinson said, adding some again will likely reach severe levels.

Rain totals between the two days are expected to largely fall in the 1/4 to 1/2 inch range.
