Hardscrabble hosts Ben I. Mayo

The Ben I. Mayo junior golf tournament begins today at Hardscrabble Country Club in Fort Smith.

The tournament will be a Players Tour event for the South Central PGA Junior circuit for the second consecutive year. The tour is for boys and girls ages 12-18 and nearly 60 players are scheduled to play in the two-day tournament.

The tournament begins at 8 a.m. with tee times running through 9:30 a.m.

Former Greenwood standout Endsley Evans, a two-time Class 5A state champion, is one of the top girls entered. Evans, who will play at Arkansas State in the fall, is ranked ninth in the South Central region.

Braden Byers, of Greenwood, is the top-ranked boys’ player from Arkansas. The sixth-ranked Byers finished third in his last Players Tour event in Stillwater, Okla.

Second-ranked Conrad Walcher of Oklahoma City, who won the event in Stillwater, is scheduled to play today.
