— Some local houses are getting some much needed improvements thanks to a national project that has an area focus.

World Changers, a youth-based organization that specializes in helping the elderly and less-fortunate renovate their homes to be safer, more comfortable and more energy efficient, brought together around 215 volunteers, mostly all teenagers, from Arkansas, Mississippi, Texas, Missouri, Illinois and Alabama to help out residents of two homes on Avon Place in east Little Rock and make some improvements to there homes.

The homes are just a few of the houses being renovated through the project. In all, 14 homes around the city are being upgraded. The home of Earl Brown was the main house receiving renovations.

Little Rock Mayor Mark Stodola participated in the event, held Tuesday morning, receiving a ceremonial hat, nail bib and shirt from project coordinator Anthony Rhodes.

In all, more than 19,000 students across the United States and Canada are taking part in the World Changers program, paying out of their own pocket to help improve the living conditions of those across both countries, according to a release from the organization.

All local construction will take place July 17-20.
