Family indicted on charges of intending to distribute 'bath salts'

— A Heber Springs family is being brought up on federal charges that they intended to distribute a synthetic drug.

According to a release from the office of U.S. Attorney Christopher Thyer, Christopher Hogan, 45, Eric Harlow 22, Zachary Cordell, 20 and Jeremy Allen, 19, were arraigned in court Tuesday on charges that they intended to distribute the synthetic drug known as "bath salts."

Hogan's wife, Angelina, 44, and their son Kristian, 20, are scheduled to be arraigned later this week.

In all, the family and those involved are facing eight counts of the charge. The police say they intended to distribute the drugs in the Heber Springs area, a news release states.

Bath salts are the common street name of synthetic drugs such as Methylone, Pentedrone and MDPV, according to the release and commonly have similar effects on the human body as methamphetamine. Police say the drugs were manufactured and imported from China by Hogan with the intent to sell to teenagers and young adults in the Heber Springs area.
