Before the resignation, Superintendent Bryan Law was reviewing the incident and expected to make a decision on any disciplinary action against Webb before today’s board meeting, he said.

Farmington police were called to Webb’s home at 429 Hydrangea Drive about 12:15 a.m. Thursday. The principal was taken into custody on suspicion of felony aggravated assault on a family or household member, third-degree domestic battery, interference with emergency communications, second-degree endangering the welfare of the minor, resisting arrest and aggravated cruelty to a dog.

According to police reports, he was first taken to the Washington County jail but transferred to a hospital before booking.

Assistant Washington County Prosecuting Attorney Denis Dean said he could not say where Webb is or discuss his condition or treatment because of privacy laws. Formal criminal charges have not been filed yet, Dean said.

The case will be reviewed and formal charges could be filed within 30 days of Webb’s incarceration, Dean said. Bail was initially set at $5,000 on Thursday.

According to a preliminary arrest report, Farmington police officers entered the home when they heard screaming from inside the house after a disturbance was reported. The officers found blood on the floor, up the stairs and on the walls, the report said. Webb was choking Shannon Shrum of Farmington and had his thumb in her eye, the report said.

A dead dog was found in a bathtub, the report said. The dog’s throat had been cut and a knife lay nearby on the floor, the report said.

Webb joined the Farmington district as the high school principal after serving as superintendent in the Prairie Grove School District for two years.
