Youth of Saline County build their 4th Habitat house

— Youth in Saline County began swinging hammers June 9 to build the fourth Youth Unitedsponsored Habitat for Humanity home in the central United States.

In August 2004, county high school students joined to form a Habitat Youth United Steering Council with a goal of involving young people ages 5 to 25 in raising funds for and building a home in partnership with a family in need.

Young people age 14 and older started the transformation of a concrete slab into a house “in the dry,” including roofing and exterior siding.

After the heavy construction phase, younger teens will participate in painting, landscaping and other construction related activities.

Completion and dedication of the home at 609 Woodlawn St. in Benton is planned for mid- to late September.
