Center on the Square to present Roger Miller’s Big River

— Center on the Square Performing Arts will bring the Tony Award winning musical Big River to Harding Academy’s auditorium at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

A special Saturday matinee will be presented at 1 p.m. All seats are $10.

Big River, written by Roger Miller and William Hauptman, is the well-known story told in Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Big River played more than 1,000 performances on Broadway, winning the coveted Tony Award for the music and play.

A rousing bluegrass/country opening number sets the theme as Huck’s friend, Tom Sawyer, and the entire ensemble tells Huck he needs to straighten up, learn to read and write, or “You’ll never get to heaven, ’cause you won’t know how.”

The part of Huckleberry Finn is played by Dillon Holden.

Others in the cast are Chris Gant, Adam Moore, Jay Niederbrach, Herbie Robinson, Mike Woodall and Corey Wright, with Rebekah Keese as Sally Phelps.

Big River is directed by Marissa Arnold with technical direction by Bradley Taylor.

“Center on the Square is happy to partner with Harding Academy to bring this play to the Searcy area,” said Caleb Keese, artistic director and producer of Big River.

“This is a great event to bring a group for an experience in live theater.” For more information or to buy tickets, visit www.centeronthesquare.org.

Tickets can also be purchased at the door before each performance.
