Tighter security planned at Muskogee courthouse

— Tighter security measures are to be implemented at the Muskogee County courthouse this week.

County Sheriff Charles Pearson told the Muskogee Phoenix that surveillance cameras, a metal detector, X-ray machine and limited public access will begin Wednesday.

Pearson said the equipment cost about $45,000 and that the ongoing cost of security is estimated at about $110,000 a year.

Pearson said he wants to make sure county employees in the courthouse are protected and that authorities just want to know who is going in and out of the courthouse.

Authorities say county employees will be given identification cards to give them faster access into and out of the courthouse.
