Stephens Media papers in central Arkansas face layoffs, report says

— Several Stephens Media-owned newspapers in central Arkansas will be forced to lay off a number of reporters and editors, a report says.

A story in the Arkansas Business Journal on Tuesday reported that four employees from seven publications in the area will be out of a job within the coming weeks.

The Times of North Little Rock, Jacksonville Patriot, Maumelle Monitor, Sherwood Voice, Cabot Star-Herald, Carlisle Independent and Lonoke Democrat are all affected. Four employees who received layoff notices Monday were Jeff Reed, sports editor for four Pulaski County newspapers; Mike Dougherty, managing editor of all seven papers; and reporters Priscilla Campbell and Ed Galucki, the report said.

A call to Byron Tate, publisher of the state weeklies and The Pine Bluff Commercial, was not immediately returned.

Stephens Media is based in Las Vegas.
