LITTLE ROCK — Runners and fans alike have seen this finish to the Little Rock Marathon before.
Thousands take part in LR Marathon
Watch VideoMark Chepses won the marathon's mens and overall race on Sunday morning, crossing the finish line in a time of 2:29.42 and Leah Thorvilson took top honors in the women's race, finishing with a time of 2:37.36, a personal best for the Little Rock native.
Both runners are repeat winners from 2011.
Chepses, 35, is now 2-for-2 in the Little Rock Marathon and Thorvilson has won four consecutive years.
An emotional Thorvilson, 33, was beaming after her win, one she said she had trained for an extended amount of time for. As for the course, Thorvilson said that the good weather and road conditions benefited her pace, and felt some level of help from the wind, especially on the portions of the course near the Arkansas River.
While taking on the 26.2-mile course, Chepses said his plan was the same as last year's race, setting his pace early. Chepses, a native of Kenya, said afterward that he was excited to come back and win the race a second time.
