England defeats East Poinsett County for girls 2A title

— England captured it's second straight Class 2A girls state basketball championship with a 62-58 victory over East Poinsett County.

Led by Janeka Watkins game-high 34 points, England outlasted East Poinsett County 62-58 for their second consecutive Class 2A girls' state basketball championship. Watkins was named Most Valuable Player.

After trailing 27-25 at halftime, the Lady Lions (31-5) got 19 second-half points from guard Janeka Watkins, including a number of crucial free throws down the stretch, to seal the program's first repeat in school history.

The Lady Warriors (26-9) outrebounded England 50-28, getting 34 of their points in the paint, but weren't able to stop the Lady Lions speedy guard-oriented line-up, giving up 17 3-pointers in the loss.

Alicia Ross finished with 18 points and a game-high 15 rebounds in the loss.

Watkins was named Most Valuable Player of the game.
