CABOT — Alene and Mack Carger will celebrate their 75th wedding anniversary from 2 to 4 p.m. today with a reception at Cabot Nursing Rehabilitation Center. The couple were married March 27, 1937. She is the former Alene Spurlin. He is retired from local radio and television, as well as The Grand Ole Opry. They are the parents of Albertina Winter of Beebe, Roberta Dupree of Romance, Michael Carger of Cabot and Dwain Carter of Grove, Okla. The couple have six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
SHERIDAN - Marilyn and Henry Whitmire will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary from 2 to 4 p.m. April 7 at Marlow Baptist Church Family Center. The couple were married April 6, 1962. She is the former Marilyn Paxton and self-employed. He is retired from Weyerhaeuser Co. They are the parents of Marty Whitmire of Sheridan, Kenny Whitmire of the U.S. Virgin Islands and Julie Peery of East End. The couple have six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Virginia (Jean) and James Purifoy of Little Rock celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary Saturday at their home. The couple were married March 29, 1947. She is the former Virginia (Jean) Swicegood and is retired from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. He is retired from FMC (Food Machinery & Chemical Co.) in Conway. They are the parents of Pam Capehart of Olathe, Kan.; Jim Purifoy of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; and Kevin Purifoy of Little Rock. The couple have four grandchildren.
MONTICELLO - Louine and Bob Leech celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. The couple were married March 22, 1942. She is the former Louine Selman and a former McGehee High School business teacher. Leech is a retired retail grocer. They are the parents of Bob Leech Jr. of Star City, Mary Johnson of Alexandria, Va., and David Leech of Stuttgart. The couple have six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
