Morrison backs Jeffress in House race

— D.C. Morrison says he’s backing former rival Gene Jeffress in the runoff for the Democratic nomination for a south Arkansas congressional seat.

Morrison told The Associated Press on Wednesday that he planned to campaign with the state legislator as he faces off against Hot Springs attorney Q. Byrum Hurst in the June 12 runoff. Morrison finished third in Tuesday’s Democratic primary for the south Arkansas seat.

Morrison, a Little Rock businessman, announced his bid after Democratic Congressman Mike Ross announced he would not seek a seventh term. Morrison ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic nomination for the United States Senate two years ago and has been a darling of Republicans for his conservative views and support of GOP politicians.

Tom Cotton won the GOP nomination for the seat on Tuesday night.
