UPDATE: Man involved in 4-vehicle accident not dead

— A previous report from the Little Rock police department indicating that a multiple-vehicle accident on Wednesday in Little Rock had claimed a second victim Thursday was false.

Little Rock police spokesman Lt. Terry Hastings said in a media release Thursday morning that 79-year-old Charles Crockett of Little Rock died from injuries he sustained in a four-vehicle accident, which occurred shortly before 3 p.m. Wednesday at the 19000 block of Cantrell Road.

One of Crockett's family members corrected this information, telling an Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reporter that Crockett had not died but was still in critical condition at UAMS and was awaiting surgery.

Hastings issued a correction shortly after 3:30 p.m. confirming that the initial report of Crockett's death was false and it stemmed from confusion from the Coroner's office.

The first victim of Wednesday's four-vehicle accident on Cantrell Road was identified Thursday as 40-year-old Maria Rosario of Adona. Rosario died on the scene.

Police took the driver of the 2013 Chrysler 300, identified as 29-year-old Demeteius Brown of North Little Rock, into custody. The report released by Hastings says Brown "appeared to be unsteady on his feet and had slurred speech on the scene." Police found a 9mm Beretta on Brown and charged him with carrying a weapon.

Brown told officers he had a seizure, according to the report. Officers performed a blood test on Brown and those results are pending.
