— The mother of a 3-year-old boy who was attacked by a pet pit bull terrier has been charged with second-degree endangerment of the welfare of a minor, said Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery.

Amber J. Moody posted a $270 bond after a warrant was issued for her arrest. She will appear in Baxter County District Court on June 21 to face the misdemeanor charge.

The pit bull terrier, a 9-month-old male adopted by Moody in March, attacked Ryland Moody in his home April 5. The boy was taken to Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home and then flown to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock for treatment.

He suffered bites on his head and face, Montgomery said.

The dog was adopted from the Humane Society of North Central Arkansas on March 7.

The society does not adopt pit bull terriers to families with young children. However, Moody wrote “none” on the adoption form’s question about children in the home, the sheriff said.

The dog was quarantined for two weeks at a Mountain Home veterinarian’s office. It was current on vaccinations and shots, Montgomery said.
