CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Jonathan Singleton went 2 for 4 with two home runs to help the Corpus Christi Hooks complete a three-game sweep of the Arkansas Travelers with a 7-2 victory on Friday night at Whataburger Field.
Singleton finished 8 for 13 with 3 home runs and 10 RBI in the three-game series against Arkansas. The Hooks first baseman hit a two-run home run in the first inning and a three-run shot in the fifth off Travelers starter A.J. Schugel (2-5).
Singleton, 20, the Houston Astros’ No. 1 prospect according to Baseball America and No. 32 overall, entered Friday batting .316, which is sixth in the Texas League.
Arkansas has lost three consecutive after winning three in a row against Northwest Arkansas. The Travs have not won a road series in six tries this season.
Corpus Christi shortstop Jonathan Villar went 3 for 5 with an RBI single and center fielder Brandon Barnes hit a two-run home run in the seventh.
Schugel allowed 6 runs, 5 earned, on 7 hits in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out six and walked two.
Hooks starter Ross Seaton (4-3) held the Travs to 2 runs and 3 hits in 7 innings.
Third baseman Renny Osuna drove in a run in the third on a sacrifice fly and center fielder Angel Castillo homered in the seventh for the Travs’ runs.
First baseman Casey Haerther, left fielder Roberto Lopez and catcher Jose Jimenez each had a hit for the Travs, who were outhit 11-5.
