Arkansas River catches coming from backwaters, main channel

— One of the hottest fishing spots in the state right now is found in the River Valley & Ozark region. The Morrilton pool of the Arkansas River currently provides good action for bream, bass and catfish and some fair catches of crappie.

The bream are being taken on crickets and worms in backwater areas. Bass are falling for jigs and buzz baits fished over and along jetties. Catfish are biting on skipjacks and rice slicks. And crappie are hanging around backwater brush and taking minnows and jigs.

Elsewhere, Lake Conway fishing is categorized as good for all four species in this week's Arkansas Game and Fish Commission weekly fishing report. Lake Maumelle is providing excellent bream and crappie fishing and is good for bass and catfish. Greers Ferry Lake may be heating up as well, with hybrid striped bass and white bass reportedly biting better and walleye fishing also improving.

River Valley & Ozark residents can show off their “catch of the day” by emailing jjoslin@arkansasonline.com.
