March Fayetteville tornado state’s 10th

— The Arkansas tornado count for 2012 has grown to 10, the National Weather Service said Monday.

The weather service’s Tulsa office said it had confirmed a tornado in Fayetteville on March 19, striking the eastern part of the city. Forecasters rated the tornado as an EF0, meaning it had winds between 65 mph and 85 mph.

The tornado was on the ground for almost a mile in the vicinity of the intersection of Old Wire Road and East Mission Boulevard.

The tornado snapped large tree limbs and caused minor damage to a grocery store and a couple of homes.

Forecasters provided the information now because each weather service office has two months after a given month ends to compile all reports and certify data for publication. As a result, weather events for March have to be compiled by the end of May.
