One killed, two hurt in collision

— One driver was killed Saturday night when a truck ran off a Craighead County highway and was then struck by an oncoming vehicle after it steered back onto the road.

Arkansas State Police say it happened about 8:40 p.m. as John William Neill, 62, was driving a 1997 GMC Truck south on Arkansas 49B.

According to a preliminary report, the truck veered off the highway at a curve in Brookland and then returned to the northbound lane of Arkansas 49, where it was hit on the driver's side by a 2010 Jeep.

Neill, who lived in Jonesboro, was taken to St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Jeep, Caitlin Brooke Tabor, 18, of Paragould, and a passenger, Sarah Michelle Loftin, 19, of Paragould, were taken to NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro with unspecified injuries.

Neill was the 450th person to die in a traffic accident in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
